I Run Because of Him

Our Story

My name is Jessica-Rose, and Andrew was my husband.

We didn’t get a normal love story.

Not “was” in the way people think—
but “is” in the way love never actually leaves.

We got hospital rooms instead of date nights.
Hard conversations instead of long-term plans.
Moments where we had to choose- every-single-day- how we were going to show up.

And we chose love.
We chose laughter.
We chose to live… even while he was dying.

That was our story.

The Reality

Brain cancer changes everything.

It introduces a kind of grief that starts long before goodbye-
what people call “anticipatory grief,” where you’re already mourning while still loving someone in front of you.

It’s exhausting.
It’s heartbreaking.
And somehow… It’s still filled with moments you would never trade.

Because love doesn’t disappear in hard seasons.
It gets louder.

After Loss

Andrew passed away.

And if I’m honest…
There are days I still don’t understand how the world keeps spinning without him in it.

But here’s what I do understand:

Love like ours doesn’t end.
It changes form.

And now… It moves my feet.

Why I Run

I run because of him.

I run because we didn’t waste our time and I won’t start now.
I run because he fought, and I still can.
I run because there are people still in the fight.

I run pushing weight that represents more than just physical effort.
It represents what caregiving feels like, what grief feels like, what love carries.

And I run because I made a decision:

I will not let this story end in loss.
I will let it live on in impact.

The Message, The Mission

If you take anything from our story, let it be this:

  • Don’t wait to say what matters
  • Don’t wait to show up for the people you love
  • Don’t assume you have time

Because one day… You’ll wish you had just one more moment.

And if you’re in a hard season right now-
I need you to hear this:

There is still life here.
There is still meaning here.
There is still hope, even here.

Call to Action

So whether you’re running today…
walking…
or just trying to make it through something heavy-

Do it with intention.

Do it with love.

And don’t ever let anyone steal your hope.
